*Purpose: To evaluate outcomes of patients with inguinal and incisional hernias at the time of liver transplant.
*Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of our prospectively maintained database of patients undergoing liver transplant in 2018. Preoperative Imaging and physical exams were utilized to assess patients with incisional and inguinal hernia preoperatively. Outcomes were defined as need for emergent inguinal /incisional hernia repair after liver transplant.
*Results: 100 patients were evaluated. 2 patients presented to the ER with strangulated inguinal hernias requiring emergent bowel resection and hernia repair. One patient underwent an emergent repair of an incarcerated incisional hernia repair prior to liver transplant; while 2 required incisional hernia repair after transplant the same year.
*Conclusions: Our study highlights hernia related morbidity in liver transplant patients. Protocols should be established to identify patients who will benefit from an inguinal hernia repair in the same admission.
