Background This study investigated the impact of hand-assisted laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (HALDN) for living donors with surgical histories. Methods During January 2009–May 2015, 555 living kidney donors underwent HALDN for kidney transplantation. A left HALDN and a right HALDN were performed in 533 donors and 22 donors, respectively. Forty-four of the 533 donors in the left HALDN group and 11 of the 22 donors in the right HALDN group had surgical histories. We compared donors with and without surgical histories in each HALDN. Results There were no significant differences in the left and right HALDN
